Employee Spotlight- Kelsie Schnabel

What did you do before joining Steele? I worked as a part-time bank teller while being a full-time Student at IUPUI’s Kelley School of Business where I graduated with a double major in Business and HR Management.

When and how did you get involved with Steele Benefits? I knew of Christine Tollison through a friend of mine. I also went to school with two of her children. We met up for dinner one night and she suggested that I come to Steele as an intern over the summer of 2020. I then moved to part-time as a Projects Specialist with Steele while finishing my last semester of college. After graduation, I joined Steele Full Time as a Project Specialist and just recently moved into the role of Data Integration Coordinator.

How would you describe your role in one sentence?
I execute integration elements of the Steele BenSelect Experience by setting up data integration for clients, documenting and reporting integration statuses, problem resolution, and assisting with the execution of case builds when strategically necessary.

What does a typical workday for you look like? When I was an intern, I was cross-trained in Data Integration and Systems Implementation. I mostly work with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) set-up and API integration. Sometimes I will help with case builds when needed. I have a long to-do list that I tackle each day including Technology Tickets, meetings throughout the day, following up with carrier and CSM emails, sending test files and scheduling production files, and clearing discrepancy reports for carriers.

Outside of work, what kind of hobbies do you have? I read in my spare time. I typically read horror, mystery/crime, and psychological thrillers. I also do puzzles created by the Magic Puzzle Company. I am the unofficial “official” Steele dog-sitter.

What is an interesting fact few people know about you? When I was 16, I went backpacking through Europe for 3 weeks with a small group of Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. I went to London, France, Austria, Switzerland, and Germany. It was one of the best experiences of my life and I cannot wait to go back.

What is the most daring thing you have ever done? For my 25th birthday, I went skydiving. It was both terrifying and exhilarating. It was a beautiful day but cloudy. We ended up jumping into a cloud, and I was terrified that we would not know when to pull the parachute, but it worked out amazingly and I plan to do it every year for my birthday.

What celebrity would you like to meet at Starbucks for a cup of coffee? I would like to meet the couple, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively because they are my favorite power couple. I love Lively’s advocacy and support of the nonprofit organization, Child Rescue Coalition, which helps track predators involved in child exploitation and human trafficking.
