Our Employee Spotlight is on Customer Success Manager, Susan Medina. We chatted with Susan to learn more about her.
What did you do before Steele? I worked at American Airlines for 12 years. I started in their reservation center and eventually became a Customer Service Manager with them.
When and how did you get involved with Steele Benefits? My husband and I move to Indianapolis from Miami, and I learned about Steele. I was not sure about working in insurance, but I really enjoyed the interview process and the team and knew this was the place I wanted to be.
What does a typical workday for you look like? Each day is different, which is exciting. I am an advocate for our customers. I do a lot of customer service and I am typically the first point of contact when they join Steele. I collaborate with our clients, brokers, carriers, and the Steele team to get them set up on our platform. We specialize in each client’s experience because each company offers something unique. I am here to fully support them and help with any issues or concerns and continue to build trust.
Outside of work, what kind of hobbies do you have? I like to work outside; we have two grandkids and I love spending time with them. They are my pride and joy. Love spending time with my family. I have a strong bond with my kids.
What is an interesting fact not many people know about you? I have eleven brothers and sisters. I am number 10 out of twelve. We grew up on a farm in a small town in Iowa.
What celebrity would you like to meet at Starbucks for a cup of coffee We just saw Garth Brooks in concert, and it was amazing. He seems like a down to earth person.
What is the most daring thing you have ever done? When I worked for American Airlines, I had the opportunity to fly for free on standby. One time, we were trying to fly to London, but the flight was full, so we walked down to next gate and got on a different flight to Buenos Aires. We did not know anything about it, and we did not speak Spanish. We just flew there, and it was an amazing trip.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be? I did have a superpower when I was a single mom of four! I handled everything that came at me.
Can you share a fun customer story–Every Wednesday I send one of my clients the hump day camel and if I do not send it, they reach out and ask me if I am okay.
